Stephen R. BUTTER, JR.
Associate
Stephen advises clients on the formation and growth of new and developing business entities and provides assistance to clients in connection with a wide range of business, transactional, and commercial contract matters. He advises companies on organization, capital structure, stock incentives, board meetings and governance of corporations, partnerships and other business entities, securities law compliance and a variety of commercial agreements. Stephen regularly represents both companies and investors in transactions involving venture capital, private equity and debt financing as well as mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to joining Dwyer Murphy Calvert LLP in January 2008, Stephen was a corporate securities and venture capital attorney in the Austin office of Vinson & Elkins L.L.P.
Stephen is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and is a member of the American Bar Association (Business Law Section and Young Lawyers Division), the State Bar of Texas, the Austin Bar Association (Business, Corporation and Tax Section) and the Austin Young Lawyers Association. Stephen received his J.D. with honors from the University of Texas School of Law and was a member of the Order of the Coir, Phi Delta Phi and the Texas Law Review where he served as Research Editor. Stephen received his B.A. in Plan II and B.B.A in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta and the Texas Cowboys. After law school Stephen served for one year as judicial clerk to the Honorable T. John Ward, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division.
Stephen enjoys spending time with his wife, Lucy, and his two sons, Trey and Tate. His outside interests include reading and Longhorn sports. Stephen serves on the board of directors of Communities in Schools of Central Texas, the Community Advisory Board of Caritas of Austin, the University of Texas Liberal Arts Advisory Council and the University of Texas 1883 Council.
